Sandbox Engineering & Design was approached with a concept for a beach ball levitated with air and controlled with an EEG device. Sandbox took the client's concept and formed it into a plan for designing the device and performing final integration at Artisan's Asylum in Somerville, MA.

The project went from concept to functional product in 4 weeks to meet the client's aggressive timeline. Sandbox Engineering & Design constructed the functional product with a 4 day fabrication and build at a location convenient for the client to allow for documentation of the project.

Stress, anxiety, & depression are on the rise on college campuses. Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for college students in the United States. Many resources already exist for treating mental illness, but are under-utilized due to unawareness & stigma. Project UPLIFT takes stigma surrounding mental health head on, raising awareness & generating excitement about life-saving university resources. Sponsored by The Awesome Foundation NYC, Project UPLIFT is utilizing the latest biofeedback technology to create an engaging and playful Mindfulness Carnival.

Sandbox Engineering & Design applied its core competencies to realize the ideas of the project UPLIFT team and promote mental health on campus. Sandbox Engineering & Design implemented integration of the MindWave EEG device with control, power, and actuation system to produce and integrated product. To ensure project success in the limited final assembly time Sandbox Engineering & Design developed prototypes and reduced risk early in the development process. Final assembly at Artisan's Asylum was executed on time and on budget to produce a final functional prototype that met or exceeded the client's requirements.
